David describes his process: “The image is a self-portrait, but is representative of any man. I started by drawing a loose outline onto the lino and by cutting tally marks, let the figure emerge.
“It took ten days to cut during my residency in a disused chapel. I proofed it on the floor using only hand burnishing. Then I had to hunt for a press large enough to print it as it measures 1 x 2 metres!
“The printmaking workshop at the University of Salford kindly gave me access to their massive Takach etching press. It took a week to print and used over 3.5kg of ink.”
